Brandt Smith

President

As President, Brandt is responsible for managing daily operations, relationship management, and business development. He ensures that all projects contracted are completed on time, within budget and to the highest quality in the industry.

After a successful start to his career with a smaller contractor, Brandt decided to grow his career. Brandt moved on to work for several large markets, including Washington DC, Las Vegas, and New York City.  He earned his Master’s Degree in Construction Management from Western Carolina University and achieved his LEED AP.

Brandt has over 15 years of construction management experience and has worked with several nationally recognized commercial construction firms across the country and in numerous industries. These industries include, but not are limited to; K-12 schools, higher education, research laboratories, hospitality, municipal, mixed-use properties, and parking structures. He led projects for their entire life cycle working with budgets that ranged up to $30 million.

Brandt is a member of the United Minority Contractors of North Carolina (UMCNC), National Association of Home Builders (NAHB), Durham City/County Appearance Commission, Durham Alumni Chapter of Hampton University, and the Reunion Committee for Hillside High School Class of 1999.

Brandt grew up in Durham, where he attended Hillside High School. From there, he ventured to Hampton University, obtaining a B.S. in Finance. Wanting to impact the rising construction and growth of Durham and the Triangle as a whole, Brandt founded SGS Contracting.
